Ludhiana: Police have booked a city resident for allegedly raping his fiancée and calling off their wedding just two weeks before the scheduled date. The accused also reportedly threatened the woman with an acid attack when she objected to the cancellation. The victim, a 20-year-old woman, further alleged that the accused developed an illicit relationship with another woman and circulated morphed pictures of her on social networking sites to defame her.According to the complainant, the couple got engaged in November 2025, with the marriage set for March. She stated that following the engagement, the accused frequently took her to various hotels and established physical relations under the pretext of their upcoming nuptials. However, twelve days before the ceremony, the accused informed her over the telephone that the marriage was cancelled. The victim alleged that when she confronted him, he threatened her with an acid assault.The woman claimed the accused’s actions were motivated by his involvement with another woman. She also alleged that he began posting edited, defamatory images of her online to damage her reputation. Police officials confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the accused under Sections 64 (rape) and 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A manhunt has been launched to arrest the suspect, who remains at large as investigations continue into the allegations.
