Ludhiana: A violent confrontation over a delivery location left a 30-year-old labourer injured in the EWS Colony on Friday night. The incident, which began as a verbal spat involving a group of intoxicated men and a delivery person, escalated when the accused opened fire, striking the victim in his foot. The injured man, identified as Sudama, is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Following the victim’s complaint, the Division Number 7 police registered an FIR against two identified suspects, Jatin Bansal and Divyanshu, along with their unidentified associates, under charges of attempted murder and the Arms Act.According to the victim’s family, the trouble started when a food aggregator delivery partner approached Sudama with a parcel. When Sudama clarified he had not placed the order, the delivery man contacted the actual customers nearby. Despite the customers asking him to move a few meters toward them, the delivery boy insisted on dropping the package at the exact location pinned in the mobile application. This prompted a group of intoxicated men to arrive and engage in an argument with the courier. The situation turned aggressive when one of the men accused Sudama of staring at him. The suspects then called for reinforcements, who arrived in a Mahindra Thar and began thrashing the bystanders. During the scuffle, one of the accused discharged an illegal firearm, firing approximately five rounds, one of which hit Sudama.Inspector Gagandeep Singh, SHO at Division Number 7, confirmed that the investigation revealed the suspects were partying in a nearby labour quarter and had ordered wafers via the app. A confusion regarding the delivery coordinates led the courier to the victim’s house, sparking the initial spat.“We have identified Jatin Bansal and Divyanshu. The probe suggests Divyanshu fired the shots using an illegal weapon. Jatin is a repeat offender with five previous FIRs, including a murder bid,” said Inspector Singh, adding that the police are conducting raids to nab the absconding suspects.
