Ludhiana: The health department has appealed for calm following the death of a city resident in Chandigarh after he had tested positive for Covid-19 and found to have co-morbid conditions.Civil surgeon Dr Ramandeep Kaur on Wednesday expressed her condolences to the man’s family and reassured the public that the health department was prepared to handle any emerging health concerns, including those related to Covid-19. “We understand that news of this kind can cause concern,” she said. “However, the health department has acted swiftly. We’ve begun precautionary sampling of the victim’s family and close contacts, especially due to the presence of respiratory symptoms.“She emphasised that while Punjab had no active Covi-19 cases currently, the department remained on high alert amid a slight uptick in national cases and isolated reports in neighbouring states. “Our teams are monitoring the situation closely, including for new variants,” she said. “We have robust protocols in place, including adequate testing, surveillance, and isolation facilities. There is absolutely no need for panic.”The civil surgeon urged residents to remain vigilant by practising good hygiene, wearing masks in crowded areas, and seeking medical advice if experiencing symptoms similar to Covid-19. She claims that Ludhiana’s hospitals are well-equipped to manage any potential resurgence and that the latest virus strains being reported remain mild, largely. “The health department is committed to protecting public well-being,” she said. “We will continue to issue updates and maintain a proactive response to safeguard the community.”MSID:: 121466674 413 |
