Jamshedpur: Acting on the direction of deputy comissioner (DC) Karn Satyarthi, the oil companies issued helpline numbers to facilitate urban consumers lodge their complaints about irregularities in the distribution of domestic LPG cylinders.Consumers can call 1800-2333-555 (Hindustan Petroleum and Indian Oil Corporation) or 1800-22-4344 (Bharat Petroleum) to register their grievances.
Urging the companies to generate awareness about the helpline numbers among the consumers, the DC said, “Cosmetic scarcity of the domestic LPG refills and black marketing, besides irregularity in distribution, will not be tolerated at any cost. Strictest action will be taken against wrongdoers, if found.”Reviewing the status of the domestic LPG distribution network on Saturday, the DC asked supplies officials to make random visits to the godowns for real-time assessment of the distribution process.Meanwhile, the distribution agency operators were asked to put up updated information outside the booking centre on a regular basis regarding the status of the availability of the LPG cylinders. Consumers should not face inconvenience due to ambiguity on their part, Satyarthi added.Consumers should have clear information about the booking process details, the date on which the LPG cylinder will be delivered. In the event of delay in the delivery of the cylinder for a genuine reason, then the consumer has to be conveyed on an immediate basis, the DC told the operators.Panic should not spread among the consumers due to the irrational and ambiguous behaviour and conduct of the staff at the booking centre and godown, he warned the operators. For over a month, long queues outside booking centres have been a common feature in the city as surge in the bookings caused by panic among the consumers has impacted the supply and distribution network.
