Dumka: An elderly couple was hacked to death allegedly by the unemployed differently abled lover of their elder daughter over their objections to marriage. The elder daughter and her younger sister were also attacked when they tried to save their parents. The incident occurred at Sundarafalan village in Dumka district on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, police said. The deceased were identified as Saheb Hembram (63) and his wife, Mangli Kisku (60). The injured sisters, identified as Hiramuni Hembram (25) and Beni Hembram (17), called the police helpline number 112, police added. Speaking to reporters from the PJMCH, Hiramuni said, “Lokesh Murmu, with whom I am in a relationship, stormed into my house between 1am and 2am armed with a knife. It was raining heavily. He killed my father and stabbed my sister, who had rushed to save him. He then killed my mother, before attacking us sisters. We managed to escape to our relatives’ house in the neighbourhood and he fled.”Referring to her relationship with Lokesh, she said, “We met each other on a social media platform two years ago. Our parents did not allow us to get married as he was differently abled and unemployed. I was avoiding him for the past one week with the hope that my parents would finally agree to our marriage.”Officer in-charge of the Shikaripara police station, Amit Lakra, said, “I reached the spot and took the family members to the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital (PJMCH), where doctors declared the elderly couple dead. The post-mortem examinations of the deceased were conducted at the PJMCH.”SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar said, “A probe has been launched. Preliminary investigation suggests that the elder daughter’s lover might be involved in the attack. A resident of Pakur district, he reportedly visited the family last night.”
