Lucknow: Another incident of a manjha-related injury in city went viral on social media, in which a 28-year-old advocate, Shailendra Kumar, came into contact with a kite string in the Aliganj area and sustained cuts on his face and neck. According to eyewitnesses, Shailendra, who is practising at the high court, was travelling from Aliganj towards Mahanagar in the evening when the string got entangled around him near the Kapoorthala crossing. Passers-by rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where he received a few stitches and was later discharged after treatment. Residents said the incident renewed concerns over the continued use of banned Chinese manjha in the city. “Despite the ban, the string is easily available in markets. It poses a serious threat to two-wheeler riders and pedestrians,” said a local shopkeeper near the crossing. Another resident added, “In a recent incident, a 35-year-old man lost his life and several others were seriously injured due to manjha. Unless strict enforcement is ensured, such accidents will keep happening.” Prof Prem Raj, in-charge of the Trauma Centre at KGMU, said kite-string injuries are particularly dangerous when they occur around the neck. “The skin in the neck region is soft and houses vital blood vessels supplying the brain. If injured, a person must reach a hospital immediately. The wound should be pressed to control bleeding, and proper medical examination is essential,” he said.
