Ahmedabad: A late-night raid by the Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB) led to the seizure of liquor worth over Rs 4.55 lakh and the arrest of a bootlegger. Acting on specific inputs, a PCB team laid a trap near the Narol-Piràna crossroads, close to Dev Hotel, on Saturday night. Around 8.30pm, police intercepted a white car suspected of transporting Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from Bareja towards the city.When signalled to stop, the driver allegedly attempted to flee, triggering a traffic blockade. In the process, the car’s driver rammed into a stationary dumper. The driver, Ravi Vacheta (35), a Rajasthannative who lives in Narol, was detained.
Police found 863 sealed bottles of IMFL packed in 30 cartons covered by a black cloth on the car’s rear seat and boot. The stock was valued at Rs 4.6 lakh. Police also seized the car worth Rs 5 lakh and a mobile phone, taking the total value of seized articles to Rs 9.60 lakh.Vacheta is said to have given names of suppliers and intended recipients to police. Police said he has several cases of prohibition against him and was wanted in an earlier offence registered with Narol police. An FIR was filed under the Prohibition Act, BNS, and Motor Vehicles Act.
