Kanpur: The city witnessed a brief spell of light storm and drizzle on Tuesday evening, bringing relief to residents from the scorching daytime heat and causing a dip in temperature.The change in weather was observed around 5 pm, when clouds gathered and light winds swept across the city, followed by drizzle that lasted for nearly half an hour. According to reports, the Company Bagh Centre recorded around 2.3 mm rain, Kakadeo recorded 2.7 mm, Civil Lines 3.1 mm and Naubasta Centre recorded 2.9 mm rainfall till 8 pm.Earlier, the IMD forecast that a new western disturbance would trigger pre-monsoon rain and hailstorms at several places on April 7 and 8. According to the IMD, two successive western disturbances are set to impact the region, with peak weather activity expected during this period. Isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, gusty winds (30-50 kmph), and hailstorms is likely. Meanwhile, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 33.5C, which is 2.5C below normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 18.8C, close to the seasonal average. According to S. Sunil Pandey, a weather expert from CSA University of Agriculture and Technology, the influence of the western disturbance is expected to persist, with chances of light drizzle and isolated hailstorms continuing on Wednesday as well. He added that due to moisture in the atmosphere, cloud movement is likely during the day; however, there is little possibility of rainfall after 11 am. Weather models indicate clear skies and strong sunshine from April 9 to April 12.
