Bengaluru: Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights recommended to transport dept that free travel facility currently available for girls be extended to boys studying up to class 12.In a series of recommendations, the commission said to address the transport needs of school-going children, especially in rural areas, road transport corporations should plan bus routes based on data about students studying in schools and colleges in specific regions. The recommendations include operating special buses for school and college students.To enhance student safety, the commission proposed mandatory installation of CCTV cameras, GPS, panic buttons and display of child helpline number 1098 in buses. It also called for basic facilities for students at bus stands.Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) said it received the commissioner’s letter but is yet to decide on extending free bus travel facilities to boys.
