Udaipur: A leopard attacked a farmer working in his field Monday afternoon in Mangthala gram panchayat under the Ghasa police station area, leaving him seriously injured and spreading fear among villagers.Villagers said Shyamlal Dangi (50) was irrigating his wheat crop in a field about 300 metre from the village when, around 3pm, a leopard lying in ambush suddenly attacked him. Dangi screamed for help and struggled to free himself. His wife, working nearby, rushed to the spot shouting, following which villagers gathered, forcing the leopard to flee.
The injured farmer was taken to Ananta Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. After the attack in broad daylight, villagers said farmers are now afraid to go to fields alone even during the day. Village sarpanch Yudhishthir Purohit said leopard movement had been reported earlier and several cattle were killed.
