MUMBAI: An altercation over seats in the ladies coach of a Central Railway local train in Mumbai escalated into a language row on Friday. So far none of the passengers have lodged a police complaint. Kurla Govt Railway Police (GRP) said they are in the process of identifying the women involved and will quiz them.The incident occurred in the second class ladies coach of a CSMT-Khopoli fast local on Friday. The train left CSMT around 8.15 pm. After it crossed Byculla station, an altercation broke out among the passengers over seats. A male home guard was present in the compartment for security and tried to resolve the issue, but in vain. He then called up the police control room and sought help. Meanwhile, one of the women passengers told another to “learn Marathi or get out of Mumbai.“GRP personnel attended the coach when it reached Mulund station. The home guard was unable to identify which of the women were involved in the altercation. None of the passengers wished to lodge a complaint at that point and the train service continued ahead.On Sunday, a video clip of the language row went viral on social media. The GRP has now decided to attend the coach from Monday to Wednesday and identify the women passengers involved in the altercation to record their statements.A decision will be made thereafter on whether to register an FIR.
