Hisar: A former village sarpanch and his nephew were allegedly murdered in a violent clash over a 2-kanal land dispute in Khokhar village in Sirsa district on Sunday. Three members of the opposing group were also injured in the incident. The deceased were identified as Jarmal Singh (42), former sarpanch of Khokhar village, and his nephew Diljit Singh (22). According to preliminary police investigations, Jarmal Singh and his nephew, accompanied by family members, went to the residence of Jaswant Singh on Sunday morning following an ongoing dispute over family land. An argument reportedly broke out between the two sides, which soon escalated into a physical altercation. During the scuffle, members of Jaswant Singh’s family allegedly attacked Jarmal Singh and Diljit Singh with sharp-edged weapons, inflicting critical injuries. Both victims were rushed to a hospital in Kalanwali, but succumbed to their injuries during treatment.Police said three persons from the other side, identified as Jaswant Singh, Bikkar Singh and Mauti Singh, also sustained injuries in the clash and were admitted to hospital. A team from Kalanwali police station reached the spot soon after receiving information and began an investigation. The bodies were taken into possession for post-mortem examination, and statements from both parties are being recorded.
According to Nanak Singh, a relative of the deceased, the dispute stemmed from a transaction involving 2 kanals of family land. He alleged that a relative agreed to sell the land and accepted an advance payment, which was later returned within a few hours. The prospective buyer reportedly accused Jarmal Singh of obstructing the sale, leading to tension between the families that ultimately turned violent.
