T’puram: The emerging technology startup hub proposed at Technopark Phase IV is likely to face further delays, with the revised detailed project report (DPR) submitted by Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) still awaiting govt approval.According to sources, KSUM submitted revised DPR to state govt last month, incorporating updated design, cost estimates and infrastructure components for the ambitious project. However, with model code of conduct currently in force, the approval process is expected to be deferred until the code is lifted, likely in May. The emerging technology startup hub is planned on a strategically located three-acre plot within Technopark Phase IV, also known as Technocity. The hub is envisioned as a dedicated ecosystem for deep-tech innovation, focusing on sectors such as artificial intelligence, robotics, blockchain, space tech and advanced electronics. An official closely associated with the project said that the next phase of proceedings, including floating tenders for construction, can begin only after the DPR receives cabinet approval. There is also uncertainty over the timeline due to the political scenario. Sources pointed out that if there is a change in govt after the elections, the incoming administration may review the project afresh before granting final approval. Such a review could potentially lead to additional delays. The proposed hub is considered a key component of state’s strategy to position Thiruvananthapuram as a major centre for emerging technologies and high-value startups. It is expected to complement the existing infrastructure at Technopark and provide advanced facilities such as incubation spaces, research labs, co-working areas and industry-academia collaboration platforms. KSUM, which functions as nodal agency for promoting entrepreneurship in the state, has been actively pushing for the project to accelerate the growth of deep-tech startups in Kerala. The hub is also expected to attract both domestic and international investments into the region’s innovation ecosystem.
