Mangaluru: Mandd Sobhann, Konkani cultural organisation, has announced the first World Konkani Music Mega Convention as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, to be held from Nov 3 to 15. The muhurtham and logo launch will take place on April 10 at Kalaangann in Shaktinagar.Addressing reporters on Wednesday, Mandd Sobhann president Louis J Pinto said assembly speaker UT Khader will attend the logo relase as chief guest. Dakshina Kannada district minister Dinesh Gundu Rao will launch the logo. Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas D Kamath, MLC Ivan D’Souza and Goan artiste Michael Gracias will be the guests of honour.The highlight of the convention will be an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by multiple singers. The programme is being organised as a tribute to Eric Ozario, flag-bearer of the Konkani movement, for his contribution to Konkani music. The programme is planned to continue for 12 days, 12 hours and 12 minutes. Officials from Guinness World Record headquarters in London are expected to witness the event.More than 6,000 singers from Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, other parts of India and abroad are expected to participate. More than 5,000 Konkani songs will be presented during the record attempt.
