Madikeri: Kodagu district police recovered stolen properties and money in several theft cases reported in Madikeri city and Somwarpet and Virajpet subdivisions and handed them over to the owners.Superintendent of police RN Bindu Mani told reporters on Sunday that the police arrested the accused and seized lakhs of rupees in cash, jewellery, coffee, black pepper and vehicles from them.She said a villager from Vijayapura district, Bhadrappa Basappa Hadapada, allegedly impersonated Mahantesh Pujar and took up the job of a caretaker who looks after a senior citizen. On Feb 28, 137 g of gold along with Rs 5.09 in cash and a mobile phone were stolen from the house. Madikeri city police, which registered a case in this regard, found that the accused changed his name, took the job and committed the theft. He was produced before a court and the valuables were recovered from him, she said.In Ponnampet taluk, a complaint was filed on March 23 regarding theft of 40 g of gold and 2.5 kg of silver ornaments belonging to Ponnappa Santhe Kallugudda Ishwara Temple. A special team was formed to investigate the case, which arrested Kyaly Kuttappa, 19, of Sulugod village, VS Yashwanth, 20, of Hathur village, Harshan, 19, of Tejur village in Hassan, and Shreyas, 24, of Bogadi in Mysuru on charges of theft. Police seized Rs 50,700 in cash, 2.422 kg of silver and 5.5 grams of gold, and a two-wheeler and four mobile phones from them, she said.In Kushalnagar taluk, three cases have been registered in Kushalnagar rural police station regarding the theft of gold jewellery, coffee and two cars. These cases have been solved, the cops said.In Suntikoppa police station limits, four cases of theft of gold ornaments, coffee and black pepper were registered, which have also been solved, the police said.The cops also recovered a total of 54 mobile phones that were lost or stolen.DYSPs Suraj, Mahesh, Dinesh Kumar, Chandrashekhar, Laxmikant Talwar and circle police inspectors PK Raju Rai and P Medappa were present.
