Mangaluru: Uppinangady police have converted an unnatural death report into a murder case after medical findings confirmed that a 73-year-old man died of severe head injuries caused by an assault.Police said an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) was filed on Feb 9 under Section 194(III)(IV) of BNSS. The medical report later confirmed that the deceased, KC Varghese, had suffered grievous head and other bodily injuries due to an assault. Based on this, the case was converted into a murder case on Feb 13 under Section 103(1) of BNS.Investigation showed that Varghese had assaulted his wife, who then left the house and sat a short distance away. A passerby alerted her son, KV Thomas, who arranged an autorickshaw to take her to the hospital.At the hospital, her brother Raju saw her condition and called his brother Chakochchan, telling him she had been assaulted by her husband. After they met, Raju and Chakochchan decided to threaten Varghese. They dropped Thomas a short distance away, went to the house, and allegedly assaulted Varghese with a wooden rod.They then told Thomas to take Varghese to the hospital in an ambulance. At the hospital, Thomas told authorities his father may have fallen from the cot, hit his head on a stone, and died, and reported it as an unnatural death.Uppinangady police later arrested KV Thomas alias Wilson, 39, of Nelyadi, Kadaba taluk; CT Raju alias Varghese, 59, of Arasinamakki, Belthangady taluk; and Chakochchan, 51, of Nelyadi, Kadaba taluk. Further investigation is ongoing.
