Ghaziabad: The death toll from a fire in a five-storey residential building in Khoda has risen to four after a 22-year-old woman died of her injuries on Tuesday, days after her parents and sister succumbed to severe burns.Anjali, who lived with her family on the second floor of the building, had been battling extensive burn injuries and smoke inhalation for eight days at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. Fire department personnel had found her in a bedroom along with her family during the rescue operation.The blaze broke out late on the night of March 3 at Sunehri Residency. According to officials, the fire started around 11pm and rapidly spread through the residential complex, trapping several occupants inside.At least 23 people sustained serious burn injuries in the incident, while nearly 35 vehicles parked within the premises were destroyed. The injured were rushed to multiple hospitals across Delhi-NCR for treatment.Three members of Anjali’s family have already died from their injuries. Her parents, Rajendra and Meena, succumbed during treatment the same night, while her elder sister, Neetu (26), died on March 7. The fire caused extensive damage to the building and displaced nearly 40 families living in the complex. Many residents have since moved to temporary accommodation after losing homes and belongings in the blaze.Police registered a case against unidentified persons soon after the incident and launched an investigation. Officials earlier said the fire began following a short circuit in the building’s electrical panel on the ground floor. Flames quickly spread to the two-wheelers parked on the same floor, and filling the stairwells and corridors with smoke.
