T’puram: Kerala International Folk Festival, organized by Kerala Folklore Academy, was inaugurated at Police Parade Ground, Thycaud, by general education minister V Sivankutty on Friday.The festival, which will run until Monday, features folk dances from six foreign countries, five international handicraft stalls, folk art forms from 16 Indian states, traditional performing arts from all the districts of Kerala, a National Tribal Festival and 80 national handicraft product stalls, with free entry for the public.
Following the inauguration, cultural performances including Ghana’s Akwaba dance and Akwaba drum show, International LED drum boats dance, Baiga dance from Madhya Pradesh, Ghoomar dance from Rajasthan, Toda dance from Tamil Nadu and Kerala’s traditional arts such as Padayani, Pooppada Thullal and Kadathanadan Kalaripayattu enthralled the audience.
