Kerala BJP chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar confirms contesting in the upcoming assembly elections.
Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Tuesday confirmed he would be contesting the upcoming assembly elections from Nemom constituency.
“Yes 100% I will contest for the upcoming assembly elections. You can write and take that I will contest. If you want, I can tell you the constituency also. I will contest in Nemom constituency.
Kerala local body elections are set to be held in two phases on December 9 and 11, where nearly 1,200 local bodies of the state will go for polling. The counting for the local elections will be held on December 13, 2025. Mattannur municipality in Kannur District will not go to polls this time as the elections are due in September 2027.
Previously, Chandrasekhar said the BJP’s aim in the local body elections is not a change of government, but a change in the style of governance. He said 95% of development in Kerala is due to the Modi government, while criticising the LDF government’s policies.
“Kerala is not developing. If it was developing, why would students go outside for education? Kerala is carrying out development by borrowing money. Funds are being reallocated and spent,” he was quoted as saying in local media.
In November, he said Muslims were not voting for the party, in response to a question about the lack of Muslim representation in the Union Cabinet.
Speaking at a press conference in Kerala, he said the BJP were not receiving support from the Muslim community, and that the Cabinet had no Muslim ministers because there were no Muslim MPs.
He defended the party’s position, pointing to the BJP’s Muslim representatives in the past like ex-Ministers Shahnawaz Hussain and Mohsin Abbas Naqvi. “The truth is, Muslims do not vote for us. But what do they gain by voting for Congress? We have never harmed anyone. There are Muslim MPs and leaders in the BJP, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Shahnawaz Hussain. Even today, there are Muslim MPs in the Rajya Sabha from J&K,” he said.
