Mysuru: Here is an opportunity for the public to improve the traffic situation in their neighbourhood. For the first time, Karnataka police in Mysuru city came up with a novel initiative of assigning a beat system for traffic police. They have to form a body of residents concerned about road traffic management and take steps to implement measures to improve the situation.Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) KS Sundar Raj said their goal is to improve the traffic situation. A meeting was scheduled at the office of the commissioner of police on Wednesday. All traffic police officers attached to five traffic stations and the assistant commissioner of police (traffic), along with a few citizens, took part in the meeting chaired by commissioner of police Seema Latkar.Accordingly, every traffic police station must form two beat groups comprising five to six residents voluntarily willing to assist the city traffic police in bringing improvement in traffic and road safety. About 36 groups, two each under one law and order police station limits, would be formed by the police under the new initiative. Before the Dasara commences, city police will hold another meeting with the selected group and take action on suggestions by them, the DCP said.
