Gandhinagar: The Gujarat govt informed the sate assembly on Tuesday that the detailed project report (DPR) of Kalpasar project was at the “finalisation stage”, will be completed in eight years after the work begins.In a starred question, Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar sought to know the status of the proposed project, the amount of funds allocated for it in the past two years, and what timeline the govt had set for completion of the project.
In a written reply, the govt said that, as of Dec 31, 2025, the DPR was at the finalisation stage and “after finalisation of the DPR, and after approvals of the state and Union govt, the project is planned to be completed in eight years”.The govt added that Rs 2 crore was allotted per year for 2024-25 and 2025-26, for the project.The Kalpasar project, first announced in the 1980s, envisages building a 30km dam across the Gulf of Khambhat to establish a fresh water coastal reservoir for irrigation, drinking, and industrial purposes. The project will have the capacity to store 10 billion cubic metres of fresh water. A 10-lane road link will also be set up over the dam, reducing the distance between Saurashtra and south Gujarat.
