Madikeri: A wild elephant fell into a toilet septic tank next to a homestay in Karada village in Kodagu district on Wednesday.A herd of wild elephants was roaming near the homestay in Keemalekadu, Karada village under the jurisdiction of Nariyandada gram panchayat. Accidentally, an elephant fell into the septic tank of the homestay. The villagers immediately informed the forest department about the incident.The sight of the wild elephant struggling inside the septic tank was heartbreaking. Another elephant accompanying it was seen trying to lift the fallen elephant from the septic tank, but the attempt was unsuccessful. The elephant, which struggled inside, managed to get out and headed towards the estate.By the time the forest officials reached the spot after receiving the information, the wild elephant climbed out of the tank.Later, the forest department staff who conducted an operation managed to reunite the elephants that were separated from the group.Last year, a wild elephant gave birth to a calf in the village, and in Palangala, a wild elephant fell into a well and died. However, the department is not doing much, villagers complained. Locals have demanded that immediate action be taken to prevent the wild elephants from entering the village.Forest officers RFO Shivaram, DRFO Srinivas, ETF forester Devaraj, and RRT camp staff visited the spot and inspected it.
