COIMBATORE: A judge in the Coimbatore district court conducted a hearing for a 42-year-old bedridden man inside a van specially designed to transport disabled people.The litigant, G S Loganathan of Sundarapuram in the city, said he met with a road accident in Jaipur, Rajasthan, in 2006 while working at a hotel. In the accident, he suffered a spinal fracture and became partially disabled. The parts of his body below the neck lost function.He underwent treatment in various hospitals and gradually began to walk again after 12 years. In 2018, he started walking with the help of a walking frame. He also began writing books and published his autobiography in 2021.After seeing this, a well-known rejuvenation home in the city approached him. They told him that if he came there for physiotherapy treatment, it would inspire other patients because he continued writing books despite his partial disability.However, during a physiotherapy session conducted by two trainees at the home 2021, Loganathan suffered a fracture in his leg due to their negligence. After that incident, he became bedridden. He alleged that the home’s management had not cared for him and ignored his condition.Loganathan later filed a petition in the Supreme Court explaining his situation. The court then directed the Tamil Nadu govt to take necessary action.Following this, a case was filed in the court of the principal district munsif, Coimbatore. The hearing took place on Wednesday. Loganathan arrived at the court in a van designed for transportation, and Judge S Maharajan came out of the courtroom and inquired into the case inside the vehicle.Loganathan said he had filed the petition seeking compensation for negligence. He added that all homes dealing with disabled people should be monitored by the govt, and they should not exploit persons with disabilities.
