Jamshedpur: The rainfall of the past two days has inundated several areas of urban circle and its vicinity with flood water gushing into several houses in the low-lying areas in parts of Bagbera, Jugsalai, Mango, Jawaharnagar, Bagunnagar, among other places. The release of excess water into the rivers from the Chandil dam in Seraikela besides Bankbal and Kharkai Mayurbhanj in Odisha caused rise in the water level of Kharkai and Subernarekha rivers. With rivers running in spate the flood prone areas suffered inundation. Besides, the water released from the Dimna dam in Jamshedpur caused waterlogging in the vicinity of the reserviour due to the overflowing of the drains. DC Karna Satyarthi has directed the municipal officials to press pump sets to remove water from the submerged areas and has asked for cleaning the clogged drains. The DC has asked the Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC) to increase the number of the health workers to get the drains cleaned. Earlier in the day, DC visited the water-logged residential areas in Mango and made physical inspection of the cleaning work. Further, on the direction of the DC, three helpline numbers are issued for the MNAC residents to call on (7004549847 6 am to 2 pm) 9031542938 2p.m. to 10 p.m. 7488676759 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) for help in the event of flooding. Besides, the people of the city can call at the district control room (0657-2444233) for disaster relief help. The district administration has issued an advisory to the people not to venture into the river for the time being. The Tatanagar railway has pressed pump sets to remove the water from the tracks at the railway yard, loco pooling point and at the underpass. Due to the water-logging the trains are moving with reduced speed at the yard on the Howrah-Mumbai line. There was some relief for the denizens in the day as there was no rain in the city limits for hours at stretch giving a widow opportunity to the residents to arrange essentials for households.The state weather office has recorded 65mm of rainfall between 5.30 p.m. Sunday to 5.30 p.m. Monday. Further, the weather department has made a forecast of weather remaining the same till next three days.
