Jamshedpur: JMM-led alliance-supported candidates won the mayoral seat in Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC), the chairman’s seat in Chakradharpur Municipal Council (CMC), Chaibasa Municipal Council (CMC), Chakulia Nagar Panchayat (CNP) and Seraikela Nagar Panchayat (SNP).In Mango Municipal Corporation (MNC), Congress-supported candidate Sudha Gupta was leading by more than 17,000 votes over BJP-supported candidate Sandhya Singh.
Sudha, wife of former health minister Banna Gupta, polled votes, while Sandhya bagged votes in the polarised election.In Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC), state minority commission chairman and JMM leader Hedayatullah Khan’s wife, Nausheen Khan, defeated BJP-supported candidate Rinku Singh by 720 votes in a tightly contested poll. Nausheen secured 11,526 votes, while Rinku bagged 10,843 votes.Incidentally, JMM supported Dolly Mallick for the chairman’s post, but Hedayatullah maintained throughout that he had no complaints and that Nausheen’s victory was the win of his party.In Chakulia, JMM-supported Somwari Soren won the nagar panchayat chairman’s post, defeating BJP-supported candidate Chandana Murmu by 727 votes. Somwari polled 3,445 votes, while Chandana bagged 2,718 votes.In adjoining Seraikela town, JMM-supported candidate Manoj Chaudhary defeated his nearest rival and BJP-supported candidate Aditya Pratap Singh Deo and bagged the nagar panchayat chairman post.Chaudhary, an academician, polled 1,943 votes, while Aditya, a descendant of the Seraikela royal family, received 1,494 votes.In Adityapur, BJP-supported candidate Sanjay Sadar defeated JMM-supported candidate Bhuglu Soren by 7,616 votes and was elected mayor of the municipal corporation.In West Singhbhum, JMM Chakradharpur MLA Sukhram Oraon’s son, Sunny Oraon, won the Chakradharpur Municipal Council chairman seat, defeating his nearest rival and BJP-supported candidate Vijay Singh Gagrai by 1,061 votes.JMM-supported Nitin Prakash won the Chaibasa Municipal Council seat, defeating BJP-supported candidate Ramesh Khirwal by 504 votes.
