Ranchi: A day after all 28 personnel of Pindrajora police station in Bokaro district were suspended on charges of lax investigation in tracing an 18-year-old girl who went missing in July, 2025, Jharkhand Police Association (JPA) on Monday called for suspension of SP Harvinder Singh alleging that he, too, failed in his duties.Following high court’s intervention, the police traced the missing girl, Pushpa Mahto’s skeletal remains on Saturday and arrested the 26-year-old Dinesh Kumar Mahto, her former boyfriend, for murder.Reacting to the mass crackdown, JPA’s in a formal statement urged the govt to also fix accountability on Bokaro SP. JPA president Rahul Kumar Murmu said that the action on entire police station staff was unprecedented but was only initiated on the lower rung officials by Bokaro SP to save himself.“We demand that innocent cops must immediately be brought out of suspension. Most importantly, the SP happens to be the chief of the district police force. How come his accountability isn’t fixed in this case? Should he be regularly monitoring the cases under his jurisdiction? The action is only to save higher echelons of the force,” he said, adding that such is demotivating. “The SP should also be suspended by the govt. We will soon meet with the DGP to take up the matter and decide future course of action,” he added.Citing their internal probe into the incident, the SP on Sunday told the media that all the cops at the thana failed to do their duty. “In our probe so far, we have learnt that the accused was shielded after taking bribes in cash and kind for socialising (partying),” he had said. The victim’s mother Rekha Devi, on the other hand, accused the local police station and its in-charge of botched up probe to save the accused leading to murder of her daughter. The victim had gone missing on July 21, 2025, but the police began pursuing this case seriously only after her mother filed a habeas corpus in high court in Feb this year.
