Patna: Spokespersons and media panellists of the JD(U) met Nishant Kumar, son of CM Nitish Kumar, on Saturday in what was seen as a significant interaction amid indications of an organisational transition within the party. Nishant, who recently joined the JD(U), is widely viewed as the heir apparent as Nitish is expected to relinquish the CM’s post after taking oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha.The meeting was held at 1 Anne Marg, the official residence of the chief minister in Patna, and lasted nearly two hours in the evening. According to party leaders, the discussion focused on the future direction of the organisation and the role of the party in the coming political phase.
JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad described the interaction as productive and said it revolved around the way forward for the party. He added that Nishant Kumar remained present throughout the meeting.Party spokesperson and MLC Neeraj Kumar said the participants came away encouraged and optimistic. He noted that Nishant spoke about the goodwill Nitish Kumar has built over his long political career and highlighted his understanding of the social changes brought about under his father’s leadership.“Nitish also made an unscheduled, brief appearance towards the end of the meeting,” one of the spokespersons told reporters.“Nishant, as an ordinary worker, seriously listened to and understood the views of many senior spokespersons. The indomitable and remarkable enthusiasm of everyone provided new strength to his ideological journey. He expressed confidence that together, everyone will make the vast family of JD(U) even stronger and take it to new heights,” the JD(U) posted on its official X handle.JD(U)’s state general secretary and its IT cell in-charge Manish Kumar was also present at the meeting.Nishant joined the JD(U) about two weeks ago shortly after his father filed nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha and indicated his intention to relinquish the chief minister’s post.
