Jamshedpur: The govt-run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) has showcaused 116 staff, including 45 doctors, whose bio-metric attendance was less than 50% in March.The state health department observed that out of the 290 personnel registered with the bio-metric attendance system, the attendance marked by 116 personnel was less than 50%.Acting on the directions issued by additional secretary (state health department) Bidyanand Sharma Pankaj to the hospital management to take action against the erring officials, college principal Dr Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday asked the heads of departments (HoDs) to showcause the doctors and other staff.A total of 25 doctors’ bio-metric attendance is zero while 20 other doctors’ bio-metric attendance is less than 50% Similarly, attendance of 64 other staff, including from nursing, para-medical, technical and general administration departments, is less than 50%. It includes 37 personnel whose bio-metric attendance is zero and 27 staff whose bio-metric attendance is less than 50%.“All have to submit their reply by Thursday. Further action will be taken based on the replies,” Kumar said.In Jan 2024, the National Medical Commission (NMC) issued a showcause to the college for less than 75% bio-metric attendance of the doctors. About a dozen doctors in 2022 and four doctors in 2023 were reprimanded for skipping biometric device, a senior official at the hospital said.The bio-metric attendance system was implemented in the hospital in 2022.
