Jaisalmer: Two bike-borne cousins were electrocuted late Wednesday night after they came in contact with a snapped high-tension power line in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district, police said Thursday.The accident took place in the Sagad police station area near Megha village, when the two youths were riding to their farm and failed to see the live wire lying on the road in the dark after rain.Police said information about the incident was received at around 10 am Thursday, after which teams from the police and the electricity department reached the spot. The bodies were found on the road, where they had remained through the night after the accident.The deceased were identified as cousins Vikram Singh, 25, son of Aamb Singh, and Raju Singh, 20, son of Chandan Singh, both residents of Megha village in Jaisalmer district.Family members said the two left home at around 9 pm Wednesday for their farm in Meghapar village, about 5 kilometres away.bIt had been raining through the day and late into the night, family members said. When the rain stopped briefly, the two set out. On the Chelak-Megha road, an 11 KV line snapped during the rain and fell onto the road. The wire was not visible in the darkness, and both were electrocuted when they came in direct contact with it.Police said the current was so strong that neither had a chance to recover. The incident came to light when passers-by noticed the charred bodies and the police was notified. Police conducted the post-mortem Thursday and handed over the bodies to the family. The matter is being investigated and the police is also examining possible negligence on the part of the electricity department for the line snapping.
