The YSRCP strongly objected to the remarks made against Jagan by his mother, saying they were “unfair and hurtful”.
Jagan and Sharmila are currently engaged in a legal battle over shares in Saraswati Power and Industries Pvt Ltd before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
The dispute has intensified after Vijayamma came out with the statement, detailing the nature of the assets and asserting that no formal partition of assets ever took place.
“All assets until 2009, till the death of late CM of undivided Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR), were combined family properties and were never partitioned. It was YSR’s intention that all assets be equally distributed among the four grandchildren,” said Vijayamma, adding that this was known to all close family members.
She clarified that every asset mentioned in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) rightfully belongs to Sharmila and noted that Jagan also had signed the agreement acknowledging her share.
Vijayamma further claimed that key assets, including Saraswati Cement and land in Yelahanka in Bangalore, were not included in the MoU despite belonging to Sharmila, and asserted that the money given to her was only dividend income from her share, not a full settlement. She expressed anguish that injustice had been done in the matter of asset distribution to Sharmila’s children, and voiced hope that Jagan would at least do justice in the future.
She questioned what she described as false propaganda, asserting that the truth was known to both God and her son, and appealed for the stopping of alleged false narratives.
As YSR’s wife, she urged restraint from repeatedly bringing the matter into the media and emphasised that every word in her statement was written truthfully in the name of God.
The YSRCP leader, R Shivaprasad Reddy, said that Vijayamma had issued a notarised press note, which first allegedly appeared on the TDP social media platforms.
He further said that property distribution had taken place before the death of YSR in 2009, and noted that Jagan had given more than his share to his sister out of affection and had entered into an MoU after becoming chief minister in 2019.
The YSRCP leader questioned why she did not express concern over comments against her son while appearing to support the narrative against him.
Shivaprasad Reddy maintained that YSRCP leaders were not indulging in propaganda but were standing up for Jagan, adding that while they respected both (YSR’s) children equally, it was unfortunate that attempts were being made to target the YSRCP chief publicly.
He claimed that the family dispute had been taken to political opponents, which escalated the issue, and questioned the narrative that injustice had been done to Sharmila and her family.
However, he said the MoU was later withdrawn due to certain developments, including legal complications, and emphasised that such disputes should be resolved within the family or through courts instead of public allegations.
He also alleged that political forces were being used against Jagan and said that if personal attacks continued, party leaders and supporters across the state would respond strongly.
After differences cropped up with her brother, Sharmila joined the Congress party and was made the president of its Andhra Pradesh unit.
