An Isteqbal-e-Ramazan Conference was held at Budgam on Sunday, bringing together prominent ulema, imams and khateebs to deliberate on the religious and social responsibilities associated with the holy month of Ramazan.
The conference underscored the importance of using the sacred month as a means to promote spiritual revival, unity and social reform in society.
Addressing the gathering, the Mufti Azam of Jammu and Kashmir said that Ramazan offers a vital opportunity for religious scholars and preachers to guide the community, particularly the youth, who turn towards mosques in large numbers during the holy month. He emphasised that sermons and religious discourses should focus on moral refinement, character building and strengthening bonds within the Ummah, while also calling for non-interference in religious affairs.
Quoting Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the Mirwaiz stressed that messages delivered from the pulpits during Ramazan must centre on strengthening one’s relationship with Allah (SWT), fostering unity and promoting ethical conduct. He urged ulema to address contemporary social issues with wisdom and compassion, guiding society towards reform, responsibility and mutual respect.
The conference was attended by senior religious scholars, including Aga Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, and concluded with a collective call for ensuring that the spirit of Ramazan is reflected through peace, harmony and constructive social engagement across Jammu and Kashmir.
