Nagpur: Mayor Neeta Thakre has directed the civic administration to issue a notice to a contractor for alleged unauthorised tree cutting in Surya Nagar under Prabhag 24.Office-bearers of the Surya Nagar Welfare Society had lodged a complaint with the mayor and the municipal commissioner, alleging that extensive tree cutting was being carried out under the guise of trimming. Taking cognisance of the complaint, Thakre visited Surya Nagar to review the situation.During the inspection, the mayor instructed officials to serve a showcause notice to the contractor for carrying out tree cutting without permission. She also directed the garden department to obtain details from Kalamna police station regarding the vehicle used to transport the cut wood and to initiate further action accordingly.The mayor further ordered that compensatory plantation be carried out by the contractor, with saplings to be planted in proportion to the age of the trees that were cut.
