Nagpur: The 998 crore Indora-Dighori flyover project, which includes two major flyover — Kamal Chowk to Reshimbagh Square and Bhande Plot to Dighori — is likely to see major development by April-end, including the opening of at least the second flyover. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), which is implementing the much-awaited project, is confident that it will complete works related to the flyover before the deadline of June 2026. Other works, including two RuBs at Pachpaoli and others, may stretch even further.Speaking to TOI, a senior NHAI official said the aim is to open the Bhande Plot to Dighori flyover first by mid-April. “We are also planning to open the Kamal Chowk to Reshimbagh Flyover by April-end, but it will depend on the construction of the ROB at Pachpaoli, which is part of the flyover. If the ROB work stretches further, then the first flyover opening may be delayed,” said the NHAI official.
The Indora-Dighori flyover project, considered one of the most complex infrastructure undertakings in the city, passes through several densely populated and congested localities. The project includes construction of two major flyovers. The first flyover, approximately 4 km long, begins just ahead of Kamal Chowk and passes over key traffic junctions such as Golibar Square, Lal Imli Square, Agrasen Square, Gandhi Gate and Ashok Square. A prominent five-armed elevated rotary has been constructed at Ashok Square to manage traffic movement more efficiently. This flyover will land just after the Reshimbagh Square ahead of the existing Sakkardara flyover. As part of this stretch, old Pachpaoli flyover was demolished and is being rebuilt, except for Railway Over Bridge (ROB) over the twin railway crossings which is still under construction. The second flyover, around 2.2 km long, begins after the Sakkardara flyover descends at Bhande Plot Square on the busy Umred Road. It will land ahead of Dighori Naka. This stretch is expected to bring major relief to commuters travelling between East Nagpur and the city’s central parts by reducing congestion on roads. While the main flyover structures are nearing completion, several related works are under way. The construction of entry and exit ramps, including those in front of Daga Hospital and near Bada Taj Bagh, may take additional time. Moreover, work for the two underpasses near the Pachpaoli railway crossings, which are also an important component of the project, are expected to miss the deadline by three-four months.
