Bhubaneswar: With several parts of Odisha, including the capital city, recording light to moderate rain or thunderstorm activities in the last 24 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a yellow alert for thunderstorm likely in several districts till April 1. It has also issued an orange warning for similar activities till Friday. Bhubaneswar experienced light rain of 3.8 mm and thunderstorm in the afternoon, even as mercury touched 37 degrees Celsius during the day. Manorama Mohanty, head of regional IMD centre in the city, said the state is very likely to witness thunderstorm activities, accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind, in several districts till April 1.There will be no large change in the prevailing trend of day temperature for the next two days, and thereafter it will drop by two to three degrees Celsius, Mohanty added.An IMD bulletin forecast thunderstorm, accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind, in seven districts — Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada and Sundergarh — on Friday.In the last 24 hours, Dhamnagar in Bhadrak district recorded highest 83 mm rainfall, said the IMD.Jharsuguda at 38.8 degrees Celsius recorded the day’s highest maximum temperature in the state. Hirakud and Titlagarh followed at 38.6 and 38.5 degrees Celsius respectively.
