Ludhiana: The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (Gladas) has launched a crackdown on unauthorised construction in the Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Nagar colony, serving notices to 43 property owners for violating approved building plans.Officials say the enforcement follows a surge in complaints regarding illegal commercial developments in residential zones, particularly along South City and Ayali Khurd roads. Residents have reported increased traffic congestion and parking shortages as residential plots are converted into shops and medical facilities, including Mahal Hospital, without govt approval.Despite initial warnings, many developers continued work, prompting Glada to begin canceling residential building plans for the offending sites. Additional chief administrator Vikas Hira warned that the agency was now moving toward stricter enforcement, including property seals and demolition drives, to halt unplanned development across the Ludhiana district.Glada’s chief administrator urged the public to adhere to sanctioned layouts and verify colony credentials through the agency’s official website before purchasing property. The authority maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward the “mushrooming” of illegal buildings to protect urban infrastructure and public convenience.
