Nagpur: Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Friday said the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) might come to Gadchiroli, as part of an aggressive push to develop skilled human resources for the district, which is on the cusp of a major growth breakthrough, courtesy of its mineral wealth.Speaking at the Advantage Vidarbha business conclave, Gadkari mentioned it was just online speculation that IIT would come to Gadchiroli. In Maharashtra, IIT Bombay is the only one.
Gadkari later in the speech said, “We need skilled people for industries to function. A long time back, Ashok Leyland set up a plant in Vidarbha and they had to hire people from other states.”He added that an institute for training skilled welders was being planned in partnership with a govt body. “Just yesterday, someone from the boiler safety department came home and mentioned this,” said Gadkari.
