Guwahati, Feb 22: On the momentous occasion of the 87th CRPF Day celebrations held on 21st February in Guwahati, the Institute of IED Management (IIM), CRPF Pune, was formally recognised as the “Best Training Institution” of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The prestigious trophy was presented by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah to Principal & DIG, IIM Pune, Krishna Kant Pandey.
A legacy of excellence in Counter-IED warfare
Established in 2012, IIM Pune has emerged as the nation’s premier centre for neutralising the threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Over the past 13 years, the institute has played a pivotal role in national security by training 12,553 personnel. The trainees include elite cadres from State police forces and CAPFs, special forces, friendly foreign countries, and various other national security institutions.
Operational impact and life-saving contributions
The tactical expertise imparted by IIM Pune has translated into direct operational success. In 2025 alone, the CRPF recorded the recovery of 767 IEDs and 6,510 kg of explosives, a feat that has undeniably saved numerous precious lives and prevented large-scale sabotage.

IIM Pune’s journey is marked by several distinguished accolades:
- G-20 Summit 2023: Recognised for its immense contribution to Anti-Sabotage monitoring during the high-profile summit in New Delhi.
- FICCI Smart Policing Awards: Two-time winner (2017 & 2019).
- NSG Counter IED Innovator Awards: Conferred with this honour 5 times for technical innovation.
- National Standards: Adjudged “उत्कृष्ट” (2026-2028) by the NSCSTI under the Capacity Building Commission.
- AIPDM 2025: Won Silver and Bronze medals in the Anti-Sabotage Competition (ASC) during the 68th All India Police Duty Meet at Ranchi.
The “Best Training Institution” award reinforces IIM Pune’s status as a centre of excellence, dedicated to evolving its training methodologies to stay ahead of the “IED menace” and ensuring the safety of the nation’s security forces and citizens alike.
