Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami attended Iftar feasts in Chennai on Sunday.Stalin flayed EPS, alleging that he remained silent when minorities were targeted by mobs in various parts of the country. Speaking at a Ramzan Iftar event organised by the DMK minorities wing in Chennai, Stalin said, “EPS has mortgaged his conscience by aligning with forces that spread hatred against minorities. He was silent when Christians were attacked during Christmas across the country. How can he safeguard minority rights while continuing his ties with the BJP?”Stating that the DMK has a longstanding relationship with the Muslim community, Stalin said the party consistently raised its voice for minority rights both in opposition and in govt. “When minorities face trouble, some leaders run and hide. DMK is always the first to speak up for their rights,” he said.EPS, who participated in an Iftar feast with BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran and AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran said the DMK and its allies were trying to create an impression that they were the sole guardians of minority rights. “In reality, it is the AIADMK that safeguards minorities,” EPS said, adding that under no circumstances would AIADMK deviate from its core principles. He said the AIADMK will uphold secularism, social harmony, and firm law-and-order-based governance. “Following the path shown by Puratchi Thalaivar (M G Ramachandran) and Amma (J Jayalalithaa), we will provide governance that benefits everyone,” he said.
