Kanpur: On Mar 5, a day after Holi, idols were stolen from a shop selling in Naubasta area, close to the police station. Thieves struck when the shop owner went to his house behind the shop. Two persons arrived and one of stood guard outside on a bike while the other entered the shop and packed six idols and other items in a polybag and fled on the bike with his accomplice.Naubasta SHO formed three teams, who solved the case within 48 hours and recovered all the stolen goods, worth Rs 10 lakh.The thieves were identified as Vivek Dixit and Shivprasad. During interrogation, they confessed to selling the stolen idols to Anil of Gajner area of Kanpur Dehat. The police team had tracked the movement of the accused based on CCTV footage and other evidence and arrested them.Anil was also made accused all three were arrested and sent to jail.An earlier case related to gambling came to light against one accused. A detailed investigation was also conducted regarding other criminal histories. The police team was recommended for cash reward of Rs 25,000 for solving the case.
