Gurgaon: Two staff members of a hotel near the railway station were arrested on Thursday for beating to death a 41-year-old man from Jharkhand, police said. The deceased, in the city seeking work, was staying at Basant Hotel.The accused were identified as Inderjeet (23), a cleaner, and Arvind (35), who occasionally worked as a cook at the hotel.According to police, the men targeted Anand Goswami after noticing he was a habitual drinker and carried cash. Inderjeet, a resident of Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, reportedly needed money for his sister’s upcoming wedding.Police said Inderjeet initially intended to steal Goswami’s money and phone to access funds. “On the night of March 10-11, after the victim fell asleep following heavy drinking, Inderjeet entered his room and took his mobile phone, planning to transfer money,” an officer said.Goswami later woke up, discovered Inderjeet in the room, and demanded his phone back. When Inderjeet asked for the phone’s password, a heated altercation ensued.“During the dispute, Inderjeet assaulted the victim. Later that night, he called Arvind, the cook, and the two beat him further. Goswami sustained severe injuries and died in the room,” the officer added.The two then left Goswami’s body in the room and escaped.Police received information that a man was lying in a pool of blood in a room at Basant Hotel around 8.30am on Wednesday after a staff member spotted it while entering the room to clean it.A team from the Sector 5 police station reached the spot and took Goswami’s body in custody. During the investigation, police went through CCTV footage from the hotel which showed both the accused escaping. A manhunt was launched and they were arrested from Sector 5. An FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by Goswami’s brother-in-law.
