Surat: A Surat businessman’s Sunday morning drive on Dumas Beach in his Mercedes Benz GLE 350d went badly wrong after the SUV got stuck in mud and was later marooned by the high tide. Akshar Shah, 50, and his wife, had gone for an early morning ride on Sunday. The joyride landed him in a mess as Shah was booked for rash and negligent driving on a public way under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 281. Surat’s popular Dumas Beach was crowded with people on Sunday morning. Shah and his wife visited the beach to enjoy the morning but instead of walking, they chose to drive on the beach, which is prohibited. After driving one kilometre towards Bhimpore, the car got stuck in some mud. The couple tried their best to free the car with its powerful engine but failed. With the full moon day near, the tide came in within an hour. This got the SUV fully stuck in the mud, rendering it impossible to drive. A video of the couple’s predicament went viral, prompting Dumas police to book Shah. He lives in the Palanpur area of Surat and had bought the car in Vadodara. “We will inform the insurance company about this incident so that the owner does not get the insurance payout. This will be done to teach a lesson to such careless drivers and car owners,” said ACP Deep Vakil.
