T’puram: Health minister Veena George will inaugurate projects worth Rs 20.55 crore in Malappuram on Saturday. The projects include a Rs 19 crore block for women and children at Nilambur district hospital, a Rs one crore food street at Kottakkunnu and the foundation stone laying for the Rs 55.5 lakh community health centre at Kuttitharammal in Iringallur grama panchayat, a press release said.The women and children’s block is one of the major projects being implemented in the health sector in Malappuram. “The first phase of the block was completed using Rs 19 crore. It spans 46,000 square feet over four floors. The new building will house gynaecology OP, paediatric OP, an observation room, an immunisation room and ultrasound scan facility. An additional Rs 1.35 crore was allocated for necessary equipment for the building,” the press release stated. As part of the modernisation of food streets, a project at Kottakkunnu, built under the leadership of food safety department, will be inaugurated. The food street aims to provide safe and clean spaces adhering to food safety standards. Four locations were selected in the first phase: Shankhumugham in Thiruvananthapuram, Kasturba Nagar in Ernakulam, Kozhikode Beach and Kottakkunnu in Malappuram. The modern food streets were realised as part of providing good food in a clean and beautiful environment, the release said.
