Guwahati: The Kamrup Metro district election authorities on Monday issued a show-cause notice to the headmaster of an ME school here after reports surfaced alleging that a political meeting was hold on the campus.
The notice issued by district election officer Swapneel Dan Paul to the headmaster of Rupnagar Vidyapeeth ME School stated that a meeting was held “allegedly at the behest of a BJP candidate from Guwahati Central constituency.”
The DEO cited violation of the Election Commission of India’s model code of conduct , which explicitly bars the use of educational institutions – govt, aided or private – for political campaigns or rallies.
The DEO said the act amounted to “gross misconduct” and contravened service conduct rules mandating political neutrality and integrity for govt servants. The act is a punishable violation under the applicable electoral laws and ECI guidelines, the notice added.
The headmaster has been asked to explain within 24 hours whether the meeting took place, under what circumstances the premises were used, and who was responsible for organising the event.
