Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court on Thursday directed the state govt to inform it about the status of repair and condition of streets in Ranchi.A division of Chief Justice M S Sonak and Justice Rajesh Shankar were hearing a public interest litigation initiated suo motu on the condition of streets, bridges, and other civic amenities in the city. The high court had initiated the petition on Nov 11, 2025 based on accidents caused due to lack of proper roads in the city.
The court was informed in course of hearing on Thursday that the road from Argora to Nayasarai is in a bad condition. Six colonies — Rajendra Nagar, Siddhivinayak Nagar, Mahua Toli, Bethlehem Nagar, Dharam Colony, and Lakshmi Nagar do not have proper streets and drainage system. During monsoon, the ‘kutcha road’ passing through the fields here is flooded. The result is large potholes and slush leading to frequent accidents. As many as 50,000 people living in the different colonies do not have proper constructed roads, the court was told.The case will be heard on Feb 26.
