Chennai: Madras high court on Wednesday dismissed a PIL seeking to prohibit grant of permission for public meetings of political parties in K K Nagar. Such meetings are causing inconvenience to the public, alleged members of K K Nagar Residents Welfare Association. Refusing to entertain the plea, the first bench of Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan dismissed it. The bench further pointed out that the plea was moved referring to a meeting held in 2024 and that the petition has no details of meetings that were conducted recently which caused inconvenience to the public.According to the association, political parties are conducting meetings in their residential area without obtaining proper permission, causing significant inconvenience to the general public and school students, among others. It was further stated that high-volume loudspeakers were being used for these meetings, causing noise pollution and affecting the daily lives of the residents. Therefore, the association wanted the court to prohibit the authorities from granting permission for public meetings of political parties in the area in the run up to the polls.
