Hazaribag: Five smugglers were arrested and illegal Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 20.7 lakh confiscated in the past 72 hours, Hazaribag SP Anjani Anjan said on Thursday.“A car was intercepted under the Chouparan police station limits and two smugglers were arrested on charges of transporting 192 bottles of foreign liquor on Tuesday morning. The market value of the consignment has been estimated to be around Rs 7 lakh,” said police in a statement.In another operation, two smugglers were arrested with 210 bottles of liquor from a car under the Katkamsandi police station limits on Thursday. The seized liquor was valued around Rs 10 lakh, police said.A total of 60 cartons of foreign liquor were confiscated from a pick-up vehicle and one arrested under the Tatijharia police station limits on Tuesday. The estimated market value of the seized liquor was around Rs.3.7 lakhA total of 7,480 lt of country-made and mahua liquor, valued around Rs 5.25 lakh in the market, were destroyed across police stations and outpost areas in the past week.SP Anjan said, “The district administration has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards illegal liquor trade. Such enforcement drives will continue.”
