Hanuman Jayanti is the major Hindu festival, which is devoted to Lord Hanuman. This day marks the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman. Hanuman Jayanti 2026: Significance
Hanuman Jayanti is one of the most auspicious Hindu festival which is devoted to honor Lord Hanuman. The day is celebrated on Purnima tithi of shukla paksha in the month of Chaitra. This day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman ji. Devotees celebrate this day with great enthusiasm and fervor across the country. He was born to mother Anjani and father Kesari during Treta Yuga, when Lord Shri Ram incarnated on earth as a human. He is also known as Pawan Putra, the son of wind. He is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva and that’s why he is known as Rudra Avtar. Mata Anjani used to call him “Sundar” and that’s how Rishi Valmiki gave the name Sundar Kand, a part of Ramacharitmanas. From childhood, Hanuman ji had extraordinary strength and divine abilities. One of the famous tale related to Lord Hanuman’s childhood was that when he swallowed the Sun, considering it as a fruit and that caused darkness in the universe then Indra attacked him with his weapon Vajra and that injured his chin.

- Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated with immense happiness and fervor across the country and devotees engaged in various religious and spiritual activities on this propitious day to seek blessings of the Lord.
- They wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath and after that some people perform puja at home by placing an idol of Lord Hanuman on a wooden plank and light a diya with desi ghee or using a sesame oil.
- Adorn the idol with flowers or garland. Offer home made bhog prasad.
- A large number of devotees visit different Hanuman temples to offer their prayers and seek his blessings. These Hanuman temples are decked up in flowers and decorated with lights.
- Many devotees organise Akhand Ramayana Path and Sundar Kand Path to seek the blessings of the Lord Ram and Hanuman ji. It is believed that Lord Hanuman ji bestow the devotees who worship Lord Shri Ram because Lord Ram resides in his heart. Conducting Ramayana Path or Sundarkand Path is considered meritorious.
- Many devotees organise food stalls, water stalls to feed the needy and underprivileged people. This is considered as a charitable deed which everyone should do.
