Jhunjhunu: Speaking at the convocation ceremony of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Shekhawati University in Sikar, governor Haribhau Bagde Saturday said in ancient India students from across the world used to come to universities like Nalanda and Takshashila and such times will once again return with universities like the Deendayal Upadhyay Shekhawati. Bagde said the land of Shekhawati had historically been the economic backbone of the country. Businessmen from here, he said, played an important role in strengthening the country’s industry and trade sector. The foundations of many prominent industrial houses, including Bajaj, Birla, Agrawal, and Modi, were linked to this very land, he said.The governor said that before the country’s independence, Ghanshyam Das Birla made a significant contribution to giving initial shape to industries in the country, in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi. Remembering Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, the governor said he was not just an individual but an institution in himself and a great thinker.Bagde told students to always keep in mind that poverty can be eliminated only through education. He urged them to use their education for the holistic development of the common people and the nation.
