Gurgaon: The Gurgaon Traffic Police has fined a total of 2,099 auto-rickshaw, e-rickshaw and taxi drivers for operating their vehicles without wearing uniforms. According to officials, despite repeated awareness drives conducted across major intersections and busy traffic points in the city, a significant number of drivers were still found violating uniform rules, prompting authorities to initiate strict legal action. The data released by the traffic police shows that between January 1 and January 31, 2,099 challans were issued specifically for uniform-related violations, resulting in penalties amounting to Rs 14,74,500. Alongside enforcement measures, traffic personnel also conducted awareness campaigns to educate auto-rickshaw, taxi and e-rickshaw drivers about responsible conduct, including maintaining courteous behaviour with passengers, adhering to speed limits, avoiding using phones while driving, refraining from intoxicants, and strictly following traffic regulations.Officials said that drivers were also informed about emergency helpline numbers such as Dial 112 and the traffic helpline 1095 to promote safety and quick assistance. The traffic police emphasised that wearing the prescribed grey uniform is mandatory for drivers operating public transport vehicles and helps ensure accountability and enhance passenger confidence. Officials said the enforcement drive will continue in the coming months.
