GURGAON: A 75-year-old retired senior officer of Railway Police Force (RPF), who served as deputy director of crime, died after an unidentified vehicle hit him from behind while returning home from his morning walk in Sector 39 on Friday.The deceased, Dhanwant Singh Yadav, a resident of Sector 39 Housing Board, left home around 5am with his wife for a walk at Tau Devi Lal stadium. Police said the couple walked separately inside the stadium and, after an hour, Yadav started heading back home alone.The incident happened around 6am opposite PNB office on the main road. “The stretch does not have a CCTV. We are scanning footage from GMDA cameras in the nearby areas to identify the vehicle involved,” an officer said.Two passersby found Yadav lying injured on the road 15 minutes later. “He was conscious at the time and shared his wife’s phone number with them. The men informed her about the accident. She rushed to the spot and took him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival,” the officer added.Yadav is survived by his wife, daughter and son. He received the President’s medal for distinguished service in 2004. “He retired in 2010 as deputy director crime from Delhi. My parents routinely went to the stadium for walks since we moved to Gurgaon in 2019. He always came back before my mother; she spent 20 minutes more at the stadium, while my father came home sooner for yoga. He was a senior commandant and DSP in RPF,” his daughter Meenakshi said. “My world collapsed in front of my eyes. The driver could have stopped and taken him to the hospital. When I received a call past 6am, he was conscious. By the time we reached the hospital, he died,” his wife Susheela said.Police received information about the incident around 8.45am. A case was registered at Sadar police station under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS. The exact vehicle involved in the accident is yet to be ascertained. Police added that the postmortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family.In a separate accident, a 30-year-old truck driver died after his vehicle rammed into a truck ahead of him near a railway crossing in Garhi village on the Pataudi-Gurgaon road on Thursday morning.The deceased was identified as Sanjay, a resident of Sonipat. Police said the accident took place around 10.30am when a truck moving ahead applied a sudden brake. Sanjay failed to stop in time and crashed into the vehicle .The impact left him severely injured inside the cabin. Locals informed police, who reached the spot and shifted him to a nearby hospital. He died during treatment. Police said the body was sent for postmortem and then handed over to Sanjay’s family. In a similar accident, a 36-year-old man died after his bike rammed into a stationary tractor-trolley near Silani village on the Sohna-Palwal road late on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Ravinder of Palwal. He worked as a labourer and is survived by his wife and five children.Police said the accident occurred around 11pm in Silani village. “Ravinder was returning home from a cousin’s wedding when his bike crashed into a tractor-trolley parked on the road. The driver of the tractor-trolley was not present at the time of the incident,” an officer said.Locals alerted police and an ambulance was called. Ravinder was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died of injuries during treatment.
